Ogasawara Maru Departure
At Ogasawara Ecotourism Resort, operator of KANAKA-VILLAGE,
our expert guides, who know every corner of the sea and mountains,
offer a diverse range of eco-tours for your exploration.
Do you provide airport/port pickup service?
Yes, we offer pickup service from the port. Please let us know your preference when making your reservation.
Is there a shuttle service during my stay?
We provide daily shuttle service from KANAKA-VILLAGE to town at 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
We use a LINE open chat for shuttle requests and coordination.
We also offer early morning service at 6:45 AM to the Hahajima Maru passenger waiting area, and can accommodate special requests during the day.
Note: We cannot provide shuttle service before 6:45 AM.
Our shuttle service is primarily from the lodge to town. For return trips, please use:
• Village bus service
• Tour company shuttles
• Restaurant shuttles
Please contact us for special arrangements if needed.
What public transportation is available?
The village bus service is available for public transportation.
From Futami Port, take the "Omoto Beach" bus. You can request to get off at "Kominato Parking" between the "Agricultural Center" and "Omoto Beach" bus stops, even though it's not a designated stop.
Is there shuttle service for dining out at night?
For dinner outings, please use our 5:00 PM shuttle service.
For your return, we recommend using restaurants that provide their own shuttle service.
We personally recommend these trusted establishments that offer fresh local ingredients.
Note: Restaurants are very busy during Ogasawara Maru port days.
Some restaurants may have limited shuttle service between 6:00-7:30 PM.
Please contact us for emergency situations.
How far is it to the town/port area?
Distance: approximately 7km
Travel time: about 10 minutes by car, 2 hours on foot
While walking is possible, the terrain is hilly with many slopes.
For frequent trips to town, we recommend renting a car or motorcycle.
Can you arrange car rentals?
We apologize, but we don't have vehicles available for guest rental.
Please make arrangements through the following website:
https://www.ogasawaramura.com/activity/rental/
Where can I book ocean and mountain tours?
We highly recommend tours with "Take Nature Academy."
They offer diverse activities including boat tours to Minami Island, dolphin snorkeling, and seasonal whale watching. The forests beyond our lodge reveal Chichijima's unique ecosystem and breathtaking viewpoints.
You can easily book these tours through our reservation inquiry email, so feel free to ask!
What should I pack for my stay?
Weather varies by season. Here's a packing guide:
Spring: Variable temperatures with windy and warm days. Pack short sleeves plus a light jacket or windbreaker.
Summer: High humidity and intense heat, but comfortable in the water. UV protection is essential - bring rash guards and light cover-ups.
Winter: While temperatures aren't extremely low, strong winds can make it feel chilly. Pack a warm windbreaker or compact winter wear.
We recommend bringing rain gear year-round for sudden showers.
Should I expect insects?
As we're located next to a World Heritage area, please expect to encounter some insects.
While frogs, cockroaches, and spiders rarely enter guest rooms, we provide insect repellent in each room for your convenience.
What can I purchase at KANAKA-VILLAGE?
Our vending machines offer tea, water, juice, beer, and chuhai.
We also sell long-life bread, rice, retort rice, and ice.
Laundry detergent is available for purchase as well.
What seasonings are provided in the rooms?
Each room is equipped with salt, sugar, and pepper.
Are there supermarkets on Chichijima?
Yes, there are three in the port area.
However, as supplies arrive weekly via the Ogasawara Maru, items may be limited, especially right after arrival.
Stock improves gradually from the evening of arrival day, and stores get very crowded.
Please allow extra time for shopping.
Business Hours:
BITC Co-op: 7:00-19:00 on arrival days / 7:00-18:00 regular days (irregular holidays)
Kobiwai Super: 8:30-19:00 on arrival days / 8:30-18:30 regular days (usually closed day after departure)
Sato Store: Opens as early as 6:30, closes at 22:00
Is there mobile phone reception?
Signal is weak for all carriers except Docomo.
Please ask our staff if you need to make phone calls for tours or restaurant reservations. Our facility has Wi-Fi, so LINE calls are available.
Are laundry facilities available?
We have three washing machines and one dryer available.
Laundry detergent is sold for 50 yen per unit. Please ask our staff when you need it.
Are there sunset viewing spots near the lodge?
Viewing points vary by season, but you can watch the sunset at Ogiura Beach, the parking area between Ogiura and Sakaiura, and the former Suzaki Airfield site.
