This distinctive coastline features scattered large rocks, creating a unique landscape perfect for rock exploration during low tide. It's also a popular spot for fishing and winter sunset viewing.
We recommend bringing warm clothing when visiting. A ground mat will come in handy when sitting on the rocky areas.
Ogiura Beach
Located southeast of Futami Bay, this beach takes its name from a rock formation resembling a fan's pivot point.
The shoreline has minimal coral and rocks, making it safe for children to play. As you venture further out, you'll discover coral reefs and fish, along with wartime remains like pillboxes and ladder marks.
The beach is also known for the sunken ship "Transport Ship No. 4," making it a fascinating spot for history enthusiasts.
Depending on the season, you might encounter schools of sardines, making it perfect for swimming and sunset viewing.
The sunset is particularly spectacular here, and you can enjoy the waters by SUP or kayak.
Subtropical Agriculture Center
This facility conducts research and testing on subtropical agriculture in the Ogasawara Islands.
The grounds feature precious endemic plants of Ogasawara, and depending on the season, you can observe various flowers including the Tridore. It's a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll.
Around mid-January, you can see the blooming of Taiwan cherry trees in the parking area.
Kopepe Beach
Adjacent to Kominato Beach, this tranquil stretch of coastline offers a peaceful escape.
Beyond the coral-rich shallows, you'll find pristine white sand beaches. The coral reefs are home to octopuses, and the area is perfect for picnics.
With limited mobile reception, it's an ideal spot for digital detox.
Around October, you can witness spectacular sunsets between the headlands.
Fukurozaki Point
For those who have mastered the Nakayama Pass and are looking for a more challenging adventure, this route awaits.
This unmaintained path requires bushwhacking through vegetation, following a narrow animal trail.
Watch out for the staircase leading down to Buta Beach - don't miss your turn.
From Fukurozaki Point, you can enjoy views of Minami Island to the southwest. If time permits, this extension is well worth the effort.
Kominato Beach
After passing through the forest at the end of the Yatsusegawa River walking trail, you'll discover Kominato Beach.
This secluded spot features pristine white sand and crystal-clear waters. As the most remote beach from town, it offers a peaceful escape with few visitors. The shallow waters are mostly free of coral, allowing sunlight to create stunning transparency in the water.
The beach features two pavilions, one crafted from Ogasawara fan palms, adding to its unique charm. Both sides of the beach offer opportunities to observe pillow lava formations, making it a must-visit for geology enthusiasts.
USK Coffee
A stylish café near KANAKA-VILLAGE.
The kitchen car-style interior offers a wide variety of drinks. Their signature "Bonin Island Coffee" is a carefully crafted brew using beans from their own farm.
The café also sells sweets and cookies, with charming displays that tempt you to order more.
With its relaxed atmosphere perfect for solo visits, this café is definitely worth a visit.
Nakayama Pass Lookout
A natural viewpoint at approximately 110m elevation, easily accessible from the lodge.
The single-track route is straightforward to follow, and the forested path offers plenty of shade, making it comfortable even for beginners. At the summit, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views. With luck, you might spot bottlenose dolphins in the bay below.
While there's a covered rest area at the top, there's little other shade, so remember to bring water and a hat.
Yatsusegawa River Walking Trail
A refreshing early morning walking route. As you stroll along the river from the lodge to Kominato Beach, you'll be greeted by the gradually brightening sky and gentle breezes flowing through the river valley.
Along the riverbank, you can spot Ogasawara fan palms, herons, and goats.
One of Yatsusegawa's unique phenomena is its mysterious water flow - the water level decreases after heavy rain and increases during dry periods.
On windless days, the river surface mirrors the sky and stars, creating a magical atmosphere. Don't miss this enchanting spot.
Tokoyo Falls
While typically a gentle waterfall, Tokoyo Falls transforms into a powerful spectacle after heavy rain, its thunderous roar reaching as far as the lodge. Experience the grandeur of nature firsthand by visiting this impressive waterfall.
Relax in a nearby hammock while feeling the refreshing mist from the falls.
If you're curious about the origin of its name, ask your guide during the Heart Rock Trekking Tour.
KANAKA VILLAGE
"Kanaka" means "person" in Hawaiian
It's a term that refers to the people of the Pacific Islands.
In 1830, Kanaka people from Hawaii
arrived and settled on Chichijima, which was then uninhabited.
Since then, it has become an inhabited island.
And this is
where the Kanaka people's settlement once stood
Perhaps because of the nearby waterfall,
now called "Tokoyo Falls,"
which never dries up throughout the year.
KANAKA-VILLAGE stands
in the most suitable location
for human habitation
